Sustainable Wellbeing Starts With You
An Earth Month conversation with Fannar Jónsson, Quality and Environmental Manager at Blue Lagoon
Fannar Jónsson grew up spending summers in the wild Westfjords of Iceland, where nature always set the rhythm. Today, as Quality and Environmental Manager at Blue Lagoon, that early connection to the land continues to shape his belief in sustainable wellbeing—a holistic approach to health that honors both people and the planet.
“We have to start by asking better questions,” Jónsson says.
“Do I really need this? Can I reuse it? And how will I recycle it once I’m done?”
At Blue Lagoon Skincare, these questions guide every decision—from our minimalist use of plastic to our choice of aluminum and violet glass packaging, which protect product potency while being easier to recycle. All of our cartons are made from FSC-certified paper, and we design packaging with circularity in mind.
Your choices matter.
“The power is in your hands,” Jónsson says. “When you prioritize sustainability, you shape the future of business. You reward companies doing the right thing and push others to evolve.”
Blue Lagoon’s B Corp certification affirms that this commitment goes beyond words. It reflects how we operate every day—through responsible ingredient sourcing, eco-conscious production, and a deep respect for human wellbeing.
What is sustainable wellbeing?
It’s the idea that personal care and planetary care are not at odds. You can nurture your skin with high-performance, naturally based products—like ours, made with COSMOS-approved ingredients and sustainably harvested Blue Lagoon bioactives—without compromising the environment.
“That is why our key ingredients are all natural-based and COSMOS approved; our facilities are certified to provide quality products without compromise,” Jónsson explains. “We also promote a healthy lifestyle for our employees, rooted in equal rights, fair pay, work-life balance, and continuous learning.”

Our Commitment to Sustainability
Going beyond skincare to protect what matters most
While Jónsson’s role is to uphold our standards day to day, sustainability is woven into every aspect of Blue Lagoon’s business model—from the ingredients we select to the energy we use.
Behind the B
In 2023, we earned B Corp™ Certification, joining a global movement of businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. This milestone reflects over three decades of growth grounded in our mission: Wellbeing for People and Planet.
Clean Formulations, Consciously Made
All of our ingredients meet rigorous sustainability criteria and are COSMOS-approved—harvested without harming natural ecosystems and manufactured with minimal environmental impact. Every formula is 100% free from GMOs, toxins, parabens, petrochemicals, and essential oils.
Powered by Nature, Not Fossil Fuels
Our operations are fueled by the Geothermal Ecocycle, a closed-loop system that captures and repurposes multiple energy streams at the Svartsengi Resource Park. This circular approach allows us to operate without fossil fuels while maximizing efficiency and minimizing waste.
Packaging With Purpose
Plastic pollution has no place in our oceans—or our skincare. That’s why we rely on light-resistant violet glass, recyclable aluminum, and FSC-certified paper to house our formulas. Every material is chosen to preserve product efficacy and support a more circular future.
